SURREY County Cricket Club team director Chris Adams has revealed that they offered to stage this week's game with Worcestershire at the Oval.

The clash between the two sides was due to get underway at Worcester's New Road ground as the Mirror went to press yesterday lunchtime, but there had been some doubt.

It had originally been scheduled for New Road, but due to heavy flooding, it was moved to Chester Road North Ground in Kidderminster. It was moved back to New Road on Monday though after the rain water cleared.

Adams said that Surrey had offered to move the fixture to the Oval.

He said: "It's out of our hands and nothing to do with us now, we do as we're told because it's not our fixture. If they had serious problems we offered the Oval because there's nothing there this week, but [Worcestershire] have assured us that the flood waters have resided and the damage to the pitch is far less than they anticipated."

Adams, like his squad, was itching to get back into action.

He added: "I can't wait. I just hope we get a few dry days here and there because it's not just the fact that we're not playing cricket, but it's getting very much harder to keep the practice surfaces dry as well.

"You sense everyone's frustrated. We want to get out there and get on with playing cricket and delivering the plans we worked on before the season. It would be nice to go up to Worcester and have four clear days, but I'm not sure we will."

Adams had Kevin Pietersen in his squad for the trip to New Road and he said it may be the only chance the fans get to see him in a Surrey shirt this season.

"We are hoping to get some good game time out of him because he looks in scintillating touch," admitted Adams.

"He looks like he really enjoyed it in the IPL and this may be the only game he plays for Surrey as he prepares for the Test series coming up, but the best impact he could have is playing a significant part of winning the game for us and if he can do that it would be superb."
