CONSISTENCY is the key if Redhill are to live up to the pre-season hype and secure promotion to the Ryman League, according to the manager Marcus Alcindor.

The quality among Redhill's squad has been the talk of the pre-season, with many tipping the club as favourites to win the Sussex County League.

Redhill finished fifth in Division One last year but Alcindor believes the team have worked on the flaws which let them down towards the end of the last campaign.

"The difference between first and fifth is a matter of consistency. The aim is to get the details of the formation sorted and hopefully this will lead to scoring more goals," he said.

"We have been working on it in pre-season. We need to get the ball into the box more and not be afraid to take the shot.

"We need to be retaining possession of the ball more, ideally keeping control of the game for 90 minutes."

To score the goals Redhill have signed Andrew Dalhouse who scored more than 20 goals in the league for Lingfield last year, as well as retaining the services of forwards Marcus Elliott, Kyle Morgan and Josh Bonnett.

Redhill vice captain John Difford echoed Alcindor's belief in this year's squad.

"I think everyone at the club is geared up for winning the league and if Dalhouse can do for us what he did at Lingfield then I think we have a great chance," he explained.

"We have also been told we need to work on our discipline this year because while it seemed decisions weren't going our way a lot of the time, complaining about the referees doesn't do us any favours."

Redhill also lost long serving defender Jon Hogg to Chatham Town, but have brought in Nytram Dixon-Baker from Lingfield as a replacement, and Difford admits he is relishing the competition for places.

"All competition is good and obviously I want to be playing every week but it keeps everyone on their toes," he said.

"Hoggy is young and wants to be playing at a higher level. Although he'll be missed, I wouldn't say he was crucial to Redhill.

"Nytram is a good player and has really surprised me in preseason. I remember him from when he was at Lingfield because he is the only player I've seen keep up with Lee Radford."

But Alcindor admits he is still on the look out for a new goalkeeper to complete the squad.

"Our keeper Chris May broke his collarbone halfway through last season and the bones fused themselves back together but at an awkward angle so he might need an operation to stop the pain," he added.
