Banstead in drop zone
Combined Counties League Premier
Banstead Athletic 0
Guildford City 2
Paul Norris was trying to come to terms with another defeat, which left Banstead rooted in the bottom three.
Banstead started brightly, but instead of dominating they allowed Guildford City to dictate.
On five minutes City came close to scoring, but Bridgman didn't connect with the ball when in a good position.
Keeper Paul Brady gathered low to his left.
Banstead did have a few chances, but they came to nothing. On one occasion, Ross White headed wide when in a good position.
Then, after 33 minutes and against the run of play, Banstead got caught on the ball, not tracking back to cover. James Brown took the ball on just outside the area and hit a low stinging shot into the bottom left, past a diving Brady.
Among the substitutes, debutant Paul Guy, on from the 53rd minute, did very well in defence making a couple of important tackles.
For all Banstead's efforts they found it hard to break City down.
Banstead went close to scoring on 74 minutes but the shot went wide. Then came the killer blow, a neat backheel from Carnegie to Elgar who took it on a few yards before unleashing an unstoppable shot
