WALCOUNTIAN Blues Lacrosse Club hosted a charity mixed tournament to raise money for Help for Heroes.

A dozen teams participated in the event, including a combined HM Forces team (comprising of Army, Navy and RAF players).

Other teams joined forces to provide teams - including Croydon Foxes with Croydon Men's team (two teams), Hilcroft Men with Clapham Ladies, Brighton, Eastbourne, Sevenoakes Coyotes (two teams), Hitchin and Reading.

Blues fielded two teams. The 12 teams were divided into two leagues, with the top two teams progressing on to the semi-finals.

Blues played against one of the Croydon teams, while the other Croydon team took on the combined forces of Hilcroft (based in Tooting) and Clapham ladies – who had joined together for the event. After having to go to extra-time to determine the winners, Blues eventually met Clap-croft in the final, which was won 7-5 by Clap-croft.

Help for Heroes was selected as Headley Court is local to their Woodmansterne base and several players have close connections to the site, military friends and injured or dead military friends.

Several items were purchased from John Bartram the local Help for Heroes fundraiser, who came to enjoy the day.

All entry fees were donated, as was all profit from a barbecue. In total £944.10 was raised. Blues are keen to make it an annual event.
