While we may like to read fantastical stories about spies, spaceships and scandals it is often tales of every-day life that are closest to our hearts.

A book about just this has recently been released in Leatherhead telling the "extraordinary stories from ordinary people" living in the town.

"Stories from the Street" features tales from all different sections of society such as a charity worker, teacher, member of the gypsy community, a homeless person and a former drug addict. The book is the brainchild of Jenny Moore who is the co-manager of the B@titude charity shop in Kingston Road.

She said: "I know Steve Lowton [the book's publisher] who is really passionate about getting people's stories. He started this publishing house a few months ago called Stories from the Street because he is convinced about the power of storytelling.

"I approached the characters featured in the book for a broad spectrum of life in Leatherhead. It took about four months to gather all the stories and we went through an editing process as well.

"The book made me feel really proud of the amazing people in the town and it would be fantastic to keep it going."

Mrs Moore says that so far the book has sold around 100 copies and has got positive feedback from readers.

"People have said it is really made them feel hopeful about the town and they like the broad spectrum of the stories," she said.

The book is available from B@titude in Kingston Road, Bartons Bookshop in Bridge Street and the Allstars cafe in the Leatherhead Theatre. It costs £6.50.
