Cadets from Dorking and Leatherhead are to join in the celebrations of the forces' 150th anniversary.

The cadets will represent the Combined Cadet Force, Sea Cadets, the Army Cadet Force and the Air Training Corps to support the national launch of 'Cadet150', which marks the 150th Anniversary of the Cadet Force Movement.

The launch was due to take place at Buckingham Palace yesterday (Wednesday) with The Queen who is patron of Cadet150.

She will receive 26 specially-selected Cadet Ambassadors.

Last evening the cadet ambassadors were due to join government ministers, the mayor of London and senior members of the Cadet Forces at a reception at Lancaster House.

Cadet Olivia Leitch, 15, of the Leatherhead detachment, said: "I joined the Army Cadet Force to have fun and meet new friends. I have served with the ACF for six months and really enjoy the different experiences and teamwork."

Cadet James Hayes, 14, of the Ashcombe School, Dorking, said: "I have been an Army Cadet for a year and really enjoy the weapons handling and fieldcraft."
