Lorries blamed for Nutfield High Street damage
HEAVY lorries have been blamed for yet more road damage on the A25 at Nutfield High Street.
Contractors were called in after a gas pipe was fractured in the road last week.
Temporary traffic lights were installed, leading to rush-hour delays.
Peter Forbes, of Nutfield Conservation Society, said: "This is the fourth time that underground services – either gas or water pipes – have been damaged at this narrow point of the A25 since last winter.

"We believe the vibration from HGVs going through the village is causing these fractures.
"They thunder through this pinch point which narrows to less than five metres.
"They often need to mount the pavement to pass, presenting a real safety issue."
In June, East Surrey MP Sam Gyimah met with officers from Surrey County Council and the Highways Agency, together with members of the TAG (Traffic Action Group) A25 community organisation.
The county council plans to carry out a comprehensive route study of the road, including conducting surveys, to better grasp the impact that lorries have on the A25.
Mr Gyimah said: "HGV lorries are a blight on the lives of those that live in and around the picturesque villages along the A25.
"The A25 desperately needs a reassessment of its capabilities as it is being pushed to breaking point."
