A CAR became wedged between trees after it careered off the road.

Firefighters from Dorking and Reigate were called to Henfold Lane and Blackbrook Road in North Holmwood at around 8.15pm on Sunday.

The silver Peugeot 206 was being driven between Dorking and Holmwood when the accident happened.

Two ambulances and two police cars also attended the scene.

Watch manager Peter Bakker said: "The car had careered off the road and went into woods, hit a tree and overturned onto its side.

"We had to try to take all the glass out but the wooded condition meant it was difficult to work and took us a little bit longer."

The male driver, believed to have suffered internal bleeding, was taken by ambulance to East Surrey Hospital.

Another firefighter said: "An off-duty ambulance officer on his way home came across the vehicle and called the necessary services.

"It was quite lucky, otherwise he could have been out there for some time."
