Cats keep up winning run
Fuller's League First XI Division Two
Whiteley Village 135
Caterham 139-1
CATERHAM continued their impressive start to the season with a nine wicket win over the division's bottom side.
Opening bowlers Robert March (0-19) and Graham Samuels (0-20) opened with a tight, consistent and probing line but the Whiteley Village openers, Tusher (17) and Terry Pope (35) managed to acquit themselves well.
But the introduction of Paul Eversfield (2-20) turned the tide in favour of the East Surrey side.
Dismissing two in an over, Eversfield made the vital early breakthrough that was needed.
The introduction of the canny bowler Chris Bullen (5-20) tied up one end and the tidy Grace (1-29) maintained the pressure from the other.
No batsman was able to cope with Bullen's probing length and mystery balls, presenting easy chances to the close in fielders.
With Orrick (2-14) coming on to mop up the tail with his mixture of French Fancies and gluten free meat pies, Whiteley Villages innings came to a quick end as they succumbed to 135 all out.
Both openers were untroubled as they picked off the runs. Just when they looked set to complete a 10 wicket victory, Eversfield (47) perhaps under the influence of the fumes resonating from the non striker's end wafted wildly and was bowled.
Daryll Wolverson (56no) and Smith (21no) made sure, however, that there was to be no drama as the cats recorded their second mauling of Whiteley Village this year, following their emphatic victory in the cup in May.
Skipper Grace was extremely pleased to see the team's unbeaten run continue as they remain third in the table.
A win in the crucial game this weekend against fifth placed Deando Ruxley will certainly give Cat's the belief that promotion is a genuine possibility this year.
