MAX Chilton will be out to impress at the opening Grand Prix of the season in Bahrain this weekend.

Chilton will line up in the supporting GP2 race keen to show the Formula One bosses he has got what it takes.

Back with the Barwa Addax team for the remaining races in the Asia series, Chilton's previous knowledge of the circuit is expected to pay dividends.

Last week the 18-year-old from Reigate, rejoined his former team Carlin for their first GP3 test at Paul Ricard, helping with the initial development of the car.

Chilton, who has graduated from three years in British F3 to GP2 for this season, was drafted in by Carlin alongside the team's current F3 racers and remained at the top of the time sheets for the majority of the sessions eventually finishing the first ever GP3 session second overall and over two days, was third fastest.

Chilton said: "We had good overall performance, despite a few little mechanical issues.

"It was good to be back with my old team and helping them develop the GP3 car for the season ahead.

"I'm pretty impressed with the car; it's really nice to drive and handles like a junior GP2 car, so I think it will be an exciting season for the GP3 drivers."
