Cobham's struggles continue to grow
Combined Counties League Premier Division
Cobham 0 Chertsey Town 2
TWO late goals from Chertsey prevented Cobham obtaining a much needed point in their desperate fight to rise from away from bottom spot.
This was a better performance from Cobham and they posted an early warning to their lofty guests when Rideout's cross field pass found Cheeseman at the back post but his effort went wide.
There was then a lengthy delay following a clash of heads between Rob Wilson and Chertsey's McNamara, which eventually saw Wilson replaced.
After half an hour Rideout combined with Cheeseman who outpaced Muldowney and went one-on-one with the keeper but could only fire his effort straight at the outstretched Lidbury.
Chertsey, for all their possession, never really threatened.
The start of the second half was delayed by 15 minutes as the earlier head injury to McNamara saw him take a turn for the worse while sitting in the dugout, and he needed the attention of the paramedics, thankfully he recovered.
Ruggles was called into action in the first minute of the second half as a visiting striker's effort was well saved.
Cobham continued to create the better chances and Lidbury was certainly the busier of the two keepers, firstly cutting out Taylor's knock back from Mckendrick - had he not done so Rideout would have had the simple task of tapping it in.
He was again called into action as a dipping curling effort from Rideout was spectacularly touched away for a corner kick.
However, with 15 minutes remaining and a draw looking on the cards, Pomroy, who until then had been kept quiet, received the ball on the edge of the area and his left foot curling effort beat the outstretched Ruggles and clipped the inside of the far post and nestled in the back of the net.
Chertsey now turned up the heat and Ruggles was forced into a good save two minutes later to prevent the visitors increasing the lead.
Chertsey did however double the lead with eight minutes remaining when Graham's right footed free-kick evaded everyone including Ruggles who was unable to prevent it going in at the far post.
Cobham battled on and with a few minutes remaining Cheeseman flashed a low cross across the face of the goal but there was no one able to knock it in it.
