Councillor praises pupils for results
STUDENTS who received their A-level results have been praised by Surrey County Council.
Hundreds of teenagers at schools and sixth forms across the county were celebrating after the results were published.
Peter Martin, cabinet member for children and learning, said: "Surrey has some of the best state schools in the country and students have pulled out all the stops to gain fantastic results."
He singled out Mike Whetnall, of The Ashcombe School, who will study Greek and Latin at Cambridge University.
Cllr Martin added: "I wish all the students all the very best as they start a new chapter in their lives, whether that's at university, in employment or further training.
"I would also like to thank all our head teachers, the teams they lead and families for the effort they've put in and the support they've given, and as we continue our drive to become a world-class authority, we will continue to work hard to ensure that standards in our schools keep on improving."
