Banstead 1

Guildford City 1

LUKE Harmsworth took the lead for Banstead, but a good Bank Holiday Monday crowd saw Guildford take a draw from a lively game.

The youngster's cracking strike gave the hosts the lead on 21 minutes.

Athletic had other chances, but the final ball was lacking.

On 32 minutes City had a chance to level when Joel Hughes was bundled over in the area. Joel Greaves, off a short run-up, put his penalty to Gavin Dilley's left as he went right.

Athletic made a sub straight after because Jack Stafford had to be replaced as he had twisted his knee and couldn't continue.

Captain Charlie Clark-Gleave cleared off the line as Banstead held firm while City tried to exert pressure, Dilley making some good saves.

In the second half Cameron Goff let go with a stinging shot that was blocked by the fortunate City defence.

Goff fought off a challenge but shot wide. City made a good move involving Greaves, Hughes and Clayden but it was put over from a good position.

The attempts from Banstead to get something from this game were encouraging.

However, the A's are still seeking their first victory of the season.

Joint boss Russell Harmsworth said: "We must now take this performance into Friday's game against Mole Valley SCR."

Banstead: Dilley, Hart (Manning 81), Chapman, Stafford (Mohammed 32), Clark-Gleave, Goff, Stenning, L Harmsworth, Rapson (Hennessey 89), M Harmsworth, Ayres.

FA Cup Preliminary Round

Norton Sport 2

Banstead Athletic 0

BANSTEAD failed to soak up the early pressure and were soon up against it in the FA Cup, conceding the first goal after 12 minutes.

Within the first few minutes of the tie, at Herne Bay's ground, Norton's Tony Clark tamely shot at Banstead keeper Gavin Dilley. Banstead were not picking up players and it proved costly on 12 minutes.

They gave away a poor corner. Ryan Rook passed along the ground into the area when Banstead thought it was coming in from height and Lewis Rivett scooped the ball up and it past Dilley's left hand into the net.

Sports seemed to like the high ball into the area which Banstead found difficult.

Dilley made important saves as Sport found space and chances went begging as they snatched at the final shot.

Straight after the break, Norton could have doubled their lead but it was cleared off the line.

The A's did find good positioning in the second half but the final pass was not there.

A second goal was coming for Norton Sports and it arrived on 87 minutes through some good work between Clark and Ashley Baverstock who got the final strike.

Harmsworth said: "Norton Sports were an experienced and canny side and although there were not many chances created in the game they took theirs and we didn't. Norton were more streetwise than us."

Banstead: Dilley, Manning, Chapman (Hart 72), Stafford, Clark- Gleave, Rapson, Stenning, L Harmsworth, Hennessey (Goff 72), M Harmsworth, Ayres.
