Cullen boosts Leatherhead open day
LEATHERHEAD Hockey Club were honoured and excited to be joined by Olympic bronze medallist Crista Cullen at their open day last Saturday.
The club's open day contributed to a post-Olympic drive to create a legacy for London 2012, encouraging people to take up or return to playing hockey.
The Give it a Go promotion was generously supported by the Team GB star who spent two hours with the club, providing some really valuable coaching, giving some insight into her Olympic experiences and patiently responding to numerous requests to see her bronze medal.
Sharing her short corner expertise, she coached the ladies through their routines before supporting the men to develop their drag flick techniques.

Development officer Liz Aeissame summed up the impact of Cullen's visit to the club by saying: "It meant a great deal to everyone and left us all really inspired and fired up with new enthusiasm.
"It's been a fantastic boost to grassroots hockey and we are grateful to Crista for coming down."
The event attracted between 15 and 20 potential new recruits among whom were some experienced players, some returning to hockey after many years' absence and some young players making the move into senior hockey.
The club are keen to sustain and build upon this, with training sessions on Wednesdays at 8pm at St Teresa's School, Effingham.
Cullen tweeted after her visit: "Thanks @leatherheadhc for having me to visit today. Great to hear that there are some new faces this season. That's what it's all about! #Give it a Go"
