It's Valentine's Day on Sunday – so share a romantic walk, ballet, classical concert or even a helicopter ride with your loved one. And for those who don't do soppy slushy stuff there's also an anti-Valentine's comedy night...

Polesden Lacey, Great Bookham

With spectacular vistas and romantic walks, there's plenty to please lovebirds.

Throughout Valentine's Week, which continues from now until Sunday (February 14), explore the gardens to discover plants that have been used as love charms and in love divinations for centuries.

Polesden Lacey House will be open every weekend in February, including Valentine's weekend, for a tour of the luxurious and glamorous rooms of Mrs Greville's Edwardian hey day. Tickets are £8 by booking in advance.

At the Valentine's Fair on Saturday (February 13) and Sunday (February 14) treat your loved one to chocolates, flowers and other goodies – and keep the children you haven't managed to escape from amused with activities.

For a special treat join the Valentine's Dinner Dance in the Courtyard Restaurant on Saturday (February 13) from 7.30pm, tickets £35 in advance.

Gatton Park, Reigate

Wander through the romantic Capability Brown landscaped gardens of Gatton Park, home to the Royal Alexandra & Albert School.

The gardens are open to the public on Valentine's Day as part of the National Garden Scheme Open Gardens programme and right now you will be able to see the snowdrops on display.

You can also amble through the parkland and woodland area owned by the National Trust, which is open all year round.

Painshill Park, Cobham

If you're thinking of popping the question then the 18th century ruined abbey at Painshill Park has been the backdrop for several marriage proposals in the past.

In fact, there is no shortage of romantic spots at this park with its gothic temple, grotto and gardens and lakes.

Earlswood Common and Lakes, Redhill

Picnic by the two lakes and feed the ducks together at this tranquil beauty spot just outside Redhill.

The two large lakes are home to a wide collection of waterfowl.

There are idyllic walks around both lakes, including a 4.6 mile circular walk starting at the car park in Woodhatch Road, and woodland and meadows with brooks and streams.

Claremont Landscape Garden, Esher

Take in the beautiful garden surrounding a lake and featuring an unusual turf amphitheatre.

Discover the island pavilion on the lake, the grotto and stunning viewpoints and feed the ducks.

Hampton Court Palace

If weddings are on your mind then there is one every day at Hampton Court Palace as part of the Heads and Hearts programme of events.

Visitors can join in the wedding celebrations of Henry VIII and his sixth wife Kateryn Parr, which take place daily. Take part in the games and feasting and even borrow a Tudor cloak.

Go Ape!, Farnham

Get your hearts racing with an action-packed date at Go Ape tree top adventure park in Alice Holt Forest.

There have even been proposals in the treetops and many couples return every year to celebrate their anniversary high in the canopy. Tarzans and Janes can explore the giant obstacle course set some 40ft above the forest floor with its swings, wooden tunnels, rope bridges, stirrups, log flumes and zip wires. Booking recommended.

LeRoc with Strictly Come Dancing Stars Vincent and Flavia

Sweep your loved one off their feet with help from Strictly Come Dancing's Vincent Simone and Flavia Cacace.

The pair will be joining a Valentine's Class Special LeRoc jive night at Dorking Halls to teach the Argentine tango at a basic level. Helicopter tours over London

Feel your love soar as you take to the skies on a helicopter flight.

Atlas Helicopters sightseeing tours are now taking off on weekends from Redhill Aerodrome and Fairoaks Airport in Chobham.

Anti-Valentine's Day Comedy at the Cottage

If all that smoochy soppy stuff isn't for you or if you're still looking for love then this comedy night presented by Comic Angels is for you.

See female double act Lynn Chambers and Sally Nettleton who have taken three successful shows to Edinburgh and have numerous TV and radio appearances and writing credits between them.

Also on the bill is Jo Coffey who has presented a weekly slot on Big Brother's Little Brother with George Lamb, supported Pam Ann and appeared on BBC's Comedy Shuffle.

Support comes from Liam Speirs, Darshan Sanghrajka, Duncan Bolt and Luisa Omielan and your MC is Sajeela Kershi.
