The major success was Johnston Sweepers, of Curtis Road, Dorking, which was declared Surrey Company of the Year.
The road sweeping specialists, which employs around 450 people, has been in the town since 1924.
Steve Douglas, the company's marketing director, said: "We are delighted to win. I think we are a particularly interesting company.
"I think the enthusiasm of our staff swayed the judges into thinking we were the best company."
Surrey Waste Management, also based in Dorking, also collected an honour, coming away with the Customer Service Award.
Sean Trotter, the company's general manager, said: "We are utterly delighted to win this award.
"We faced some very stiff competition, so to have won is fantastic.
"Customer service is at the heart of all we do to help Surrey residents recycle more. We are thrilled that our hard work has been recognised."
Europa Technologies, of Cobham, came away with the International Business Award.
The small Business Award, which was sponsored by the Surrey Mirror series, was won by Woking-based art gallery The Lightbox. The awards were presented by BBC presenter and Surrey resident Nicholas Owen.
The occasion was also attended by the Lord Lieutenant of Surrey, as well as nine county mayors.
Organisers of the awards said they had over 200 entries, which were reduced to a shortlist of 27 companies vying for 11 coveted awards.
Michael Price, chairman of the judges, said: "Since the awards were launched four years ago they have grown in popularity and stature.
"Despite the adverse economic pressures our businesses continue to thrive and make a major contribution to the UK economy."
