Dorking headmaster to help in school placements furore
A Dorking headmaster is looking to create an extra class after local children missed out on gaining places at a popular school.
The Priory C of E School in West Bank Dorking is oversubscribed for September 2010 with governors providing 160 places for 156 first preferences.
Pupils and parents in Capel have since lashed out at Surrey County Council who made many children in the village offers for Oakwood School in Horley - miles from their homes.
However, Andre Sohatski, headmaster is doing all he can to help parents and pupils left with long treks to get to school.
He said: "We are considering the possibility of creating an extra class as we have been informed that a significant number of parents from the local area who put the school as a first preference have not been allocated a place, and also that there are a further significant number of families who did not apply to The Priory School because they did not think they would be eligible for a place."
Any families who find themselves in either position are asked to telephone the headmaster as a matter of urgency on 01306 887337
The Advertiser is also keen to hear from parents who are upset about their child's school offer.
