NOT all that long ago, Surrey were supplying England with as many as four players. But it's now almost three years since an Ovalite represented England at the top level, although that could soon change with Steven Davies knocking on the door hard.

Looking further ahead, teenagers like Matthew Dunn are also starting to make an impression, albeit on the bottom rung of the ladder.

The 18-year-old fast bowler from Egham has already played seven one-day internationals for England U19, taking nine wickets at 24.11 runs apiece, and is currently playing for England Under-19s against Sri Lanka at Northampton.

Dunn, who took 3-48 against Bangladesh in his only appearance to date for the Surrey first team, said: "I first got involved with England Under-19s last season, when I played in a Twenty20 at Sleaford against Bangladesh, which was a great experience.

"Then I was lucky enough to go away to Bangladesh for a month, which I found a big challenge because I hadn't played a lot of high-level cricket before that.

"I went out there, took everything on board and I was lucky enough then to get into the side to go to the Under 19 World Cup, which was probably the best experience of my life.

"Hopefully if I do well against Sri Lanka I might get more opportunities with Surrey.

"I'm on a three-month emerging players' contract at the moment. So the next target is to get myself on the Surrey staff again next year and just keep progressing, but one day I'd love to play for England."

Dunn is keen to emulate his heroes in the sport, with Brett Lee his childhood idol.

"I always looked up to him when I was growing up, just because he bowled at 90 miles an hour.

"But these days I model myself on Mohammad Aamer of Pakistan, because he's my age and he's already playing Test cricket."
