End of an era for Redhill's Woolworths
Shoppers were sad to see the end of an era when an historical store closed for the last time.
Woolworths, in High Street, Redhill, has been in the town for more than 60 years.
The Mirror spoke to shoppers following Saturday's (December 27) closure.
Speaking outside the empty shop Mr Nixon, 81, from Merstham, said: "It's very sad after all these years. People come into Redhill especially to go to Woolworths."
The store, which was one of the first of 200 stores to close, is now emptied of all stock and "closed" is scribbled in biro on makeshift signs attached to the doors.
Rupa Upadhyay, 30, from Redhill, told The Mirror: "It's a shame. You want to go to one store with good prices. Redhill doesn't have many good shops and Woolworths is one of the major ones. They had everything in one place."
Woolworths is closing stores across the country and will cease trading completely on January 5.
