Explosion rips through home in Merstham
A HOUSE exploded in a giant inferno late last night.
The suspicious fire broke out just after 10pm in a property on Huddleston Crescent, Merstham, and quickly spread to the rest of the house.
Six fire engines spent hours trying to extinguish the blaze, but the house was completely gutted by the time it was put out.
Fire investigators remain on the scene.

“A really sad incident, a huge thank you to all the neighbours who assisted in clearing the area and homes so that the fire fighting team could get on with the situation. Well done to the emergency services for such great service and support.”

“I live in one of the houses next to where the fire took place and from the bottom of my heart I would just like to thank the incredible team of firemen who saved a terrible situation from being so much worse.Although I speake for myself and my family I have no doubt at all that my immediate neighbours feel exactly the same.”

“Yes they were a credit to the service, the terraced houses could have all been burnt down. I heard them driving off at about 03.00 am so they must have been there at least four and half hours working none stop. It beats me how they can get abused and assaulted in some parts of the country for doing such a brave and dangerous job. Well done the Fire Service.”

“Although the house was completely gutted in a very short time I think the work done by the fire service was absolutely top class in saving the two houses either side from the same fate. Luckily i have never been close to this situation before and never want to be again but full admiration to those involved in the aftermath.”
