A pair of suspected burglars were put in custody following a string of overnight break-ins.

Police were called at 4.24am this morning (19 November) to London Road, Felbridge, following reports an 88-year-old man had just been burgled.

Earlier that morning, between 3-30-4.20am, a secondary burglary also took place in London Road, when an 82-year-old man and his 85-year-old wife were woken by a burglar's demands for money.

Despite officers arresting two men at 4.52am, they are still looking for other suspects following a string of burglaries across Surrey, Sussex and Kent overnight.

Detective Inspector Mark Chapman said: "We believe a number of crimes including burglary and assault were committed last night by the same small group of people.

"The offences took place within a small geographical area in Surrey, Sussex and Kent which is why the three Forces are working together to collate as much information as possible in relation to those responsible."

The suspects are described as a black man and a white man, in his 40s and of slim build.

DI Chapman added: "Officers responded within minutes of the original call reporting the burglary in London Road and began pursuing the suspects.

"Although we have made two arrests it is vital we hear from members of the community who may have information relating to these burglaries. These burglaries were carried out against elderly people, in their own homes, while they were sleeping. With your help we can arrest all those responsible and bring them to justice.

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank our colleagues in Sussex Police who assisted in searching for the suspects and would urge anyone who has any information at all, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem, to come forward. Your help could make all the difference to this investigation."

Anyone who can help is urged to contact Surrey Police on 0845 125 2222 quoting reference TD/09/6097.
