DEAN Forbes will return to Redhill next season as director of football as boss Marcus Alcindor sets his sights on the title.

Forbes was in charge of the Lobsters at the start of the 2009/10 season, but left in mid-December when he found his work commitments left his time with the club limited.

However with the support of Alcindor – who was assistant to Forbes before taking the hot seat – the ex-international is making a return to Kiln Brow.

"I'm looking forward to having him back," Alcindor saidI.

"Our roles are going to be very different. He isn't there to manage the club on match days and won't be coming in the dressing room.

"He's there to offer his opinions, source players and look into tactics.

"He has a lot of football knowledge to offer the club, and with his new job he can attend more games than he did when he was manager."

He added that a fitness regime aimed at pushing the Reds to the Ryman League is already in place.

"We've started the schedule and it's gruelling," Alcindor said. He added that he has spoken to all the players he wants to play for him next season, including Asher Hudson, "unsung" Charles Ofusuhene and – he hopes – Calvin Headley, who is already part of Bromley's academy.

But one thing is clear - they will have to perform better than in recent weeks.

The Lobsters boss was not happy with his side at half-time in their Sussex County League 3-3 draw with Selsey recently, when he outlined his intentions for next season.

"They were told quite clearly if they want to be champions next year they need to finish teams off," he said.

The boss believes winning the league will be necessary, with the likes of Chichester upgrading their facilities for Ryman standards.

The Lobsters will not be able to match the big-spending Whitehawk, who they played on Saturday, next season although Alcindor has spoken to his board about a budget for next season.

"There will be an increase, but there's not a Whitehawk level increase," he said.

"We won't have Ryman League money, but they are committed to go up – if we don't then I would put my feet up in retirement!"

He believes his squad will stay because they enjoy playing at the Kiln Brow club.

"People want to enjoy their football.

"If people come with wadges of money the players will go, but the knit we have got is key. I've spoken to everybody I want and they are happy to stay.

"Some I will suggest they find another team, but everybody we want will stay."

Versatile defender Hudson, Whyteleafe's player of the year last season, might face temptation from his old club to move.

But Alcindor said: "He shook my hand and said unless anything absolutely ridiculous comes along, we're on."

The Reds, he said, had encountered many approaches for players this season.

But none of them had been for Ofusuhene, the player in his squad whom Alcindor believes can go the furthest in the game but goes unnoticed much of the time.

"When he's not playing we're a different team," he said.

Alcindor believes his side have dropped "21 points" where they should not have done this season.
