MERSTHAM U9s beat Newdigate in the East Surrey Colts League.

Newdigate batted first and got off to a steady start, openers William Goudie (5) and Ben Ball (9) looked for runs at every opportunity and this trend was continued by Oliver Quigley (11no) and George Wood (3).

Merstham though were able to take regular wickets throughout the innings and although man of the match Sam Perrins (11no) kept the runs flowing, wickets still tumbled.

While Fiona Kehl batted bravely for her one alongside Morgan Hamilton (8) and Nicholas Duncan (4), it was skipper Jack Duncan (18) who then applied pressure to the home side and pushed the visitor's total up to a very respectable 296-8.

After the break Merstham attacked the bowling from the outset and by the 12th over looked well in control at 264-2.

However, back came Newdigate and wickets to Goudie, Perrins and Jack Duncan threatened to take the game away from Merstham with one over remaining and still 12 to win. But Merstham's final pair stood tall and sealed a tense but deserved four run victory.
