Godalming Charterhouse councillor Tony Gordon-Smith is the new Mayor of Waverley
Speaking after being elected Cllr Gordon-Smith said: "I am both honoured and privileged to have been elected as the Mayor of Waverley. This is a very exciting year to be Mayor. I'm very much looking forward to the Jubilee events taking place across the borough and the arrival of the Olympic torch in Godalming on 20 July promises to be a sensational event. This year of sport will be crowned by the opening of the new Godalming Leisure Centre in the early autumn."
He adds: "During my year I will be holding events to fundraise for my four chosen charities which are: the Prostate Project – a charity whose mission is to give men a better chance at beating prostate cancer, GRACE which supports women with gynaecological cancers, the Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment Benevolent Fund and DropBy an online community which aims to put an end to isolation amongst the over 60s. As well as supporting my own charities I am also greatly looking forward to visiting some of the very worthwhile organisations in this borough.
