NEW signing Michael 'MC' Harvey was thrown in at the deep end after a family emergency for striker Lee Smith meant manager Marc White handed the former So Solid Crew rapper a debut start at the last minute.

In a heated Sussex County League Division Three game, where the referee was kept busy showing no less than 11 yellow cards, Dorking Wanderers collected a 4-2 win over Haywards heath to go top of the league and White was pleased with his team's display.

"It was a great team performance," he enthused.

"I don't think Haywards Heath are quite the team they were last season, but they are still a good side and it was our first away match all season, including preseason, so I'm pleased with the result. I'd rather be at the top of the table than the bottom but it's early days."

And despite having little time to get to know his team-mates, White was pleased with his new signing.

"Harvey had a great debut. He is a big character in the changing room and got the best out of some of the other players. I threw him in the deep end after he hasn't played for a while and he did well," he added.

It was Haywards Heath who opened the scoring from a badly defended free-kick but Shane Jones levelled the scores before half-time with a header.

In the second half Martin Merrett put Dorking ahead before Heath scored a header at the far post against the run of play.

Dorking's dominance final began to show in the last quarter of an hour as Craig Duffell and Kevin Burgess added late goals to seal the win.
