Horley have returned to form with a 41-0 victory over Bognor Regis fourths.

It had been a tough start to 2010 for the Griffins, having lost their first game of the season to league title rivals Sussex Police and being knocked out of the Sussex Shield in the semi-final to an excellent Brighton University side, but Horley were back to their best against a battling Bognor.

Horley showed their determination from the kick off, with Martin Simmonds and Joe Pellen chasing down the kick and preventing Bognor from attacking out of their half. Excellent rucking technique turned the ball over to Horley and scrum-half Kent Tristram quickly sent the ball out to the backs. Quick hands sent the ball along the line to winger Ade Corcoran who accelerated around his opposite number and scored the first Horley try within two minutes.

Bognor replied with force; retaining multiple phase ball through their well-drilled forwards. However, Horley held firm with a rock solid defence and picked their opportunities to change the pace of the game, sending Corcoran over for his second try just minutes after his first.

The Bognor pack was formidable force and dominated the scrum and ground contact during the first half and Horley had to work hard just to retain their own ball.

The Horley side once again worked their way into the Bognor 22 and it was a great reward for the entire team when prop Jason Davies, who only started playing rugby this season, crashed over the line to score his first ever try.

Top try scorer Jack Pellen, who had been making some terrific breaks throughout the half and distributing try-scoring passes to his team-mates, decided it was his turn to get on the score sheet.

A well-rehearsed move between fly-half Daniels and inside centre Matt Clark, gave Pellen space and he burst through the first line of defence before rounding the full-back and scoring under the posts.

If the first half demonstrated Horley's capabilites, the second half brought all of the elements together to produce a superb display of rugby.

The forwards began to operate as an eight man unit and, while Bognor were still dominating the scrum, Horley gained the upper-hand in open play and countered Bognor's excellent rucking technique.

Ciaran Overall, Steve Parsons, Pellen and Simmonds all took it in turns to keep Horley driving up the pitch and recycling the ball.

Once the defence had been sucked in, Tristram again flung it wide and another set move in the backs released full-back Mark Watson for one of his trademark scorching runs, splitting the defence in two and cantering over the line to score.

Before the game was over, Corcoran completed his hat-trick and opposite winger Barry Edwards scored a great try to complete the Horley victory.

Next week Horley travel away to Holbrook for a tough league game versus another team contending for a place in the top 3.
