Horley in stunning form against Villa
Combined Counties League Premier Division
Hanworth Villa 2 Horley Town 4
Horley collected a double whammy over Hanworth Villa having beaten them the previous Tuesday in the League Cup.
Horley gave a competitive debut in goal to Stuart Delvin as James Wastell suffered a hamstring injury during the midweek cup win.
Horley started brightly and felt they should have had a penalty on 10 minutes when Danny Guscott was pushed at a set piece but the referee waved play on.
On 20 minutes a near post corner appeared to strike the arm of Luke Ragetti but again the referee gave nothing much to the relief of the Horley defence. Ten minutes later a long punt up field by the Hanworth keeper was missed by the Horley defence, and the Hanworth winger allowed to run on and shoot past Delvin.
Horley were quick to respond and some neat passing resulted in Dan Bates going through on goal.
He was tripped by a Hanworth defender and Chris Weller made no mistake from the spot.
Two minutes later Horley took the lead. A great ball to the back post from John Eldred was met with a powerful header back across the keeper and in at the far post from Jamie Risebrow.
Following a mazy run by Adam Pullen, who beat two defenders and rounded the goalkeeper but with the goal at his mercy he was about to shoot when a defender dived in and fouled him.
Michael Death rolled the ball into the empty net, but the referee disallowed the goal and awarded a penalty. To the amazement of everyone including the Hanworth management he only yellow carded the defender. Horley started the second half as brightly as the first, playing good passing football.
Death broke through and rounded the keeper and a defender before slotting the ball into an empty net.
Horley dominated the next 20 minutes. However Hanworth rallied and scored a good header from a corner.
This Saturday Horley entertain Croydon in a league match at the New Defence.
