Financial expert Matthew Baker of Champ Consultants in Westway Caterham, explained: "If someone is trying to sell a business like this, it is worth more if you keep it open.

"In fact, it's good practice to do so. The insolvency practitioner will be looking to sell the business and provided the business isn't losing too much money will keep it going unless there is no chance of a sale.

"It could be there is a buyer looking to sort out their finances – perhaps someone who would buy the business for £1 and take on the debts.

"But it couldn't stay open indefinitely, especially if it is trading at a loss."

“Im starting to think the Surrey Mirror is turning into the Daily Mail. Never focuses on the positive aspects of anything . The world is having a hard enough time - without you trying to encourage further problems for local business. Maybe its just personal. Oh sorry - just remembered you are owned by DMGT. Explains everything.

Surely its good news that any business continues to trade and that local people haven't lost their jobs ? All the guys and girls that work there are busting their guts working hard in the bar and restaurant to keep the place going and keep their jobs safe. A little support for local business in tough times wouldn't go a miss.”
