BROCKHAM Badgers U14s won the President's Cup thanks to a 3-1 win over Billingshurst at the weekend.

Ironically, it was a 6-0 win in the league for Billingshurst last weekend, against another team, that ensured Brockham stayed in the A League. But Brockham repaid them by inflicting defeat.

The teams were evenly matched with Brockham's nerves showing in the first few minutes until they settled down to play some of their best football of the season.

Spurred on by the enthusiastic supporters, Badgers raised their game and some swift footwork from James Quinn neatly lobbed the ball over the heads of the Billingshurst defenders into the path of striker Andy Kehl, whose shot into the back of the net sent the Brockham followers ecstatic.

The partnership of Andrew Kensett and Michael Brockwell in defence was as strong as the Billingshurst strikers struggled to find a way through.

Eventually, their perseverance paid off and the jubilant Billingshurst team evened the scores.

Brockham winger Sam Campbell stepped up his game and showed why he is such a valuable team member weaving and worrying the opposition with his determination and skill. Outwitting the defence with some fancy footwork the combination of Ben Giles, Will Hearn and Campbell neatly set up the second goal for Kehl to coolly slot home.

The Brockham midfield fought for every ball worrying the Billingshurst players in treacherous conditions that saw many players slipping and sliding in the thick mud.

A fresh pair of legs from substitute Dan Singleton brought life to the Brockham squad.

An injured Charlie Edwards came on to replace Michael Brockwell who hobbled off the pitch in the last 10 minutes and they finished the job with a third goal.

Brockham: Will Hearn, David Farrell, Sam Campbell, Louis Clarke, Dan Singleton, Charlie Edwards, Michael Brockwell, Michael Tsmekis, James Herouvin, James Quinn, Ben Giles, Andrew Kensett, Andy Kehl, John Flynn.
