Late strike earns South Park win
Combined Counties Premier Division
Hartley Wintney 2
South Park 3
SOUTH Park left it late against third-placed Hartley Wintney, who were winning before a player was sent off for a dangerous tackle.
Boss Joe McElligott admitted, with Hartley 2-1 up, it was the turning point.
"While at the time of the sending off we were playing well, we used it to drive forward," he said. "It was a good result. Hartley are strong. We anticipated a good game and got it."
Park closed the gap to Hartley to eight points as a result of strong team play, said McElligott.
"I feel everyone played very well and having Kieran Lavery back in the squad was a real boost, too. We expected to just give him a run-out, but he started and went the distance," he said.
"They were all good, but the back four were excellent. We have Chobham at the weekend and then a difficult game against Eversley, but we'll take one game at a time and see how we go."
Mullard, Wilson, Perkins and Sinclair all protected the line in front of keeper Polley, who was rarely threatened.
In first-half injury time Hartley scored after a clever move on the edge of the box.
Park scored when a neat through ball allowed Kieran Lavery to drill home.
Hartley regained the lead, when Spence, having floored Mullard with an elbow in the face, deemed accidental, drilled a low cross that rebounded off Perkins and in.
Hartley went down to 10 after a reckless challenge on Gareth Balcombe, Karl Parker was introduced and drilled home to level.
Then Dan Stone slipped the ball to Dan Mottram to drill home Park's third.
