Leaders Addiscombe defeated by Dorking
Surrey Championship
Division Five
Addiscombe 163
Dorking 164-8
DORKING stormed back into the promotion race with a thrilling win over league leaders Addiscombe.
Having been soundly beaten in the meeting earlier in the season Dorking knew they were in for a difficult afternoon. However, their first success came when captain Graham Dymond won the toss and took them into the field.
Strike bowler Lewis Davies made the first inroads as he bowled Docherty (4) and then Moore (36) with a run rate already sky high thanks to a lightening quick outfield.
The dangermen Poulton and Johnson were now in and soon started to settle, however, the change bowling of Ben Overton and Andy Homewood pegged the run rate back.
When Johnson fell plum in front to Overton for 47 and Poulton (30) holed out it was down to the hosts lower order to set a score. Yet nothing materialised as Crowie fell second ball and Polly first ball courtesy of Homewood, from being set at 118-2 Addiscombe were 130-6.
Dorking continued to be ruthless as Overton bowled Starnes and Anjum. Brief resistance from Snaddon gave the home side something to bowl at, but 163 all out was well below what Addiscombe would've expected.
Overton finished with another five wicket haul, while Homewood took 2-47 and Davies 3-52.
Due to the early completion of the home side's innings Dorking had half an hour to survive before the tea break. As Addiscombe took the old ball with leading league wicket taker Anjum and Johnson they kept Chave and Chisman under wraps.
And just before the break Chave was unlucky to fall to a spiteful delivery from Johnson.
Chisman and Davies saw it through to tea and continued after the break, with Davies dispatching Johnson's short delivery several times over the rope.
Chisman fell at 45-2 as Davies and Andy Homweood looked to stabilise the innings. However, as Davies departed for a well made 37 it sparked an all too familiar Dorking collapse and the game was well and truly on.
Francis Chadwick was once again the man to rescue the situation as he and Homewood batted patiently, before Homewood was harshly adjudged lbw for 22.
This brought Overton to the crease and a match winning partnership was formed, as Anjum toiled away the pair played their shots at the other end.
When Chadwick fell for a brilliant 49 and another quick dismissal followed the Dorking boys began to become slightly nervy but Overton (32no) and Rob Jones saw it home for a two wicket victory.
Another super bowling display earned Dorking a massive 13 points in their promotion hunt and put them right back into the shake up. A visit to Chipstead this Saturday is another crucial encounter for the Pixham Lane outfit.
