Leatherhead cash machine scam foiled
A device used to rip-off card users was found attached to a cash machine in Leatherhead this week.
The gadget, which was planted in Church Street, was found after PCs Fran Davey and John Hench spotted three men acting suspiciously while patrolling the town centre on Tuesday (February 24).
The officers then spotted the device which had been super-glued to the cash machine.
The three men, aged 18, 19 and 29, all from Epsom, were arrested and released on police bail until June 2 pending further enquiries.
Surrey Police is now warning residents to take care when using machines by making sure no-one is hanging around suspiciously and, if they are, to cancel your transaction immediately.
PC Fran Davey, the neighbourhood specialist officer for Leatherhead, added: "We would like to hear from anyone who was in the Church Street area of Leatherhead on Tuesday evening, from 8pm onwards, who may have witnesses something suspicious at the ATMs."
If you have any information you can contact Surrey Police on 0845 125 2222 quoting crime reference number MV/09/851.
