COUNCILLORS last night voted to relocate Dorking Library from Pippbrook House to the town centre.

Surrey County Council's plans to change the use of three units in St Martin's Walk from retail to multi-media centre were passed by members of Mole Valley's development control committee.

Cllr Valerie Homewood said: "The location of Pippbrook House is good as it's in the centre of the cultural part of the town.

"We would be rash, possibly foolhardy, to part with shopping units in the core of the town.

"I think that from the point of view of our less able residents there are serious disadvantages.

"Once the library is moved, it cannot move back again."

Councillors voted 17-2 in favour of the application.
