Redhill 2 Lingfield 2

FOUR stunning second half goals saw the match finish all square in the Surrey derby of the Sussex County League.

Redhill twice went ahead, but after Lingfield first equalised through ex-Red Andrew Dalhouse, Simon Wallace caught Lobsters keeper Chris May off his line with an excellent lob for the second.

Redhill manager Marcus Alcindor believes his side gave goals away too easily.

"We gifted them two goals and so they got the two points off us," he said.

"Two stupid goals to concede and we didn't create enough chances, but I was happy that in the second half it looked like we were putting some effort in. I find it astounding that at this level we only seem to have three players that can head the ball. We know we have a problem there and we are going to address it. The long balls have been causing us problems all season.

"However I was really happy with Christian Howell, the right back, when he came on. He passed the ball well and put in some important tackles."

Lingfield's Wallace was pleased with his eye-catching lob, but Alcindor believes conceding the second goal was avoidable.

"It was a long ball and we were in the wrong position; whether that's the defender's fault or the keeper's, there needed to be more communication. The striker got the goal he deserved," he added.

Lingfield caretaker manager Steve Perkins was pleased with the point his injury hit side gained.

"You wouldn't believe how many players I had out today," he explained.

"I played young Tom [Gilbert] at right-back, I had young David Heaton on the bench and the other boy on the bench, Ricky Spain, had been out all night. When I first saw him I thought there was no way I could play him, but he's come on and helped me out.

"It is a good result. These lads just needed to believe in themselves and now they've gone nine or 10 games without losing."

It was a pacy start from the home side with Leon Dussard going close after a great run down the left and Asher Hudson attempting a cheeky backheeled shot.

However it was Lingfield who had the first real chance when a Teddy Ansell corner found Dalhouse at the far post unmarked, but keeper May saved to his right.

Minutes later, ex-Red Eddie Koboah put the ball wide with May still on the deck from an earlier shot.

On 39 minutes, Josh Bonnet was through on goal but keeper Adam Woodward saved on the second attempt.

As the end of the half approached, John Difford had a shot cleared off the line before efforts from Tyron Sealey, Daniel Morris and Bonnet were all defended well.

Redhill started the second half well and eight minutes in a Dussard through ball left Sealey with the easiest tap in.

Three minutes later, Dalhouse found himself through on goal with only Charlie Stagg close. The defender couldn't get there and the league's top scorer added to his tally by putting it past May from a tight angle.

On 61 minutes, Redhill went ahead again when a ball found Chris Hubbard down the left, who then crossed it for Morris to rifle in from close range.

However, a resilent Lingfield equalised just two minutes later when Wallace caught May out.

Lingfield were saved at the death by a superb save by Woodward from Difford's free-kick. The keeper tipped the shot, destined for the top left corner, on to the crossbar, from which it was then cleared to safety.
