Lions show their teeth in championship game
SURREY were in a commanding position after day two of their County Championship game against Derbyshire at Chesterfield.
The Lions led by 204 runs with nine second wickets in hand having decided against enforcing the follow on.
They will now look to bat Derbyshire out of the game before relying on an under-strength attack to try and bowl the hosts out for a second time after being told that Tim Linley has a suspected torn ligament in his foot which will prevent him from bowling again in the match.
Batting first a 99 from Mark Ramprakash and half-centuries from Stewart Walters and Usman Afzaal helped the Lions up to 391 all out.
In reply, Derbyshire were in trouble at 81-6 as Tim Linley (4-13) made inroads before being forced off injured.
But Wayne Madsen (109) and Lee Goddard (67) rescued the hosts with a seventh-wicket stand of 137 as they were bowled out for 237.
After Andre Nel had Chris Rogers caught at point, Linley ripped through the rest of the Derbyshire top order, having Garry Park and Chesney Hughes both caught behind before bowling Greg Smith and Wes Durston.
