Llamas win but results elsewhere rule out title
Surrey Championship
Premier Division
Reigate Priory 187-9
Weybridge 120
DESPITE comfortably beating Weybridge on Saturday Reigate Priory have had to settle for second place in the league as Sutton's victory over Banstead has earned them the title for 2009.
Sutton have had an excellent year and are worthy winners but a lot of pride will be at stake next week when the Llamas entertain Sutton at Park Lane in the last league game of the season.
Weybridge won the toss on Saturday and inserted Reigate and again Michael Foster looked in sublime form before he was bowled for 21 by Adam Bennett, who bowled a beautiful spell of 3-25 and also bowled Murtagh and Roy.
Matt Bennett was back in his old opening spot and from 56-3 his old opening partner, Alex Richards, helped take the score to 94 before Ansari bowled Richards.
Bennett top scored with 51 and a sensible captain's innings of 35 from Hewett took the score to 142 but wickets fell regularly and at 161-8 it required Richard Stephens and Daryl King to take the Llamas up to 187-9.
In reply Weybridge were never likely to make the total and wickets were lost steadily as they collapsed to 76-8 with only Charlie Hodgson with 22 showing any real fight.
King with 3-36 and Richard Stephens with 3-16 were the pick of the bowlers.
The ninth-wicket pair put on 41 but Briggs and Hewett completed the demolition job to dismiss the hosts for 120.
