Local derbies could be the key for SCR
MOLE Valley SCR manager Darren Salmon believes his side's two matches with local rivals Dorking will go along way to settling the Combined Counties Division One title.
With just six games of the season remaining SCR sit top of the table by six points following Saturday's 1-1 draw at second placed Staines Lammas.
It is a strong position to hold with games running out, but with Staines still holding a game in hand Salmon is not taking anything for granted just yet.
The River Lane outfit have got to go to fourth placed Knaphill and face two games against fifth placed Dorking before the campaigns up, and it is the outcome of these games that Salmon feels may be crucial.
"We've got Farleigh Rovers, Feltham and Frimley Green and you would expect us to get good points from those games, but it will be the two with Dorking and the trip to Knaphill that will be a real test," he said.
"We were pretty pleased to come away from Staines with a point even though we had chances to win it.
"A draw away at the team in second spot can't be a bad result. The other results went our way too, with Dorking drawing with Hanworth Villa.
"We're in a good position now. I think five wins from the last six would definitely seal the title for us."
Mole Valley face a nervous wait to find out if the hard work they have done on the Fetcham based ground will meet the stringent ground grading regulations laid down by the league for promotion to the Premier Division.
The last day of work will be carried out this Sunday, then officials from the CCL will contact the club to fix up a date - likely to be one day next week - for the inspection to take place.
"We've done all we can, but I think it's going to be a pretty close call whether we make it or not," said Salmon. "We'll just have to wait and see, but we've done a lot of hard work at the club and we would be very disappointed if we did miss out."
