Macdonald Frimley Hall Hotel wins Environmental Hotel of the Year Award
Macdonald Frimley Hall Hotel & Spa, near Camberley, Surrey has won the group's Environmental Hotel of the Year Award for its efforts towards reducing its carbon footprint. The initiative, known as Room 15, is organised by Macdonald Hotels & Resorts for its members and sets 15 'green' targets to be achieved by 2015.
Each hotel within the 45-strong group was required to form a green team committee that would meet on a monthly basis to discuss ideas for energy savings and other areas to positively impact on its carbon footprint. The hotels were measured on their energy saving by comparing gas and electricity usage, year on year, as well as recycling and other suggestions generated from the monthly meetings.
Room 15 objectives include a 15% reduction in the use of electricity, fossil fuels and water by 2015; the provision of recycling facilities to ensure that zero operational waste is delivered to landfill sites and to ensure that all paper consumables are made from recycled materials. The plan is that every Room 15 in every Macdonald Hotel becomes the exemplar room for sustainability and a showcase for the environmental movement by 2015.
