Maximum points for Dorking Wanderers
Sussex County League Division Three
Broadbridge Heath 1
Dorking Wanderers 3
DORKING Wanderers enjoyed a successful Easter weekend, picking up maximum points from matches with Hurstpierpoint and Broadbridge Heath.
Wanderers thumped basement boys Hurstpierpoint 5-0 on Saturday thanks to a hat-trick from Lee Smith and a brace from Matty Evans, before seeing off Heath 3-1 on Monday.
The visitors were 3-0 up at half-time with Evans hitting another brace and Smith getting the other, making it a good weekend personally for the strike duo.
Wanderers conceded a soft goal in the second half when Josh Lennie came for a cross and missed it, but there was never any danger to the result.
Most disappointing for manager Marc White was the loss of James Campbell and Shane Duffell for similar injuries.
Both were taken away in an ambulance after suffering heavy head knocks.
White said: "Campbell went up for a header and was accidentally elbowed which led to a really badly broken nose and the ambulance had to be called.
"While he was in there Shane Duffell has gone up and been knocked and he's had to have stitches in his mouth, so they both went off in an ambulance together and the second half was backs to the wall stuff."
After a season of inconsistency the two Easter results leave Wanderers six points off third place, and they host the team currently holding that position - Haywards Heath - on Saturday.
White added: "We are fifth now and a couple more weeks of mixed results and we could pull ourselves back into third place.
"We have got Haywards Heath on Saturday and that's a bit of a derby, both clubs were pre-season favourites and if we beat them we will only be three points behind them.
"Those six points have done us good, they have pulled us back into minor contention, but we would need things to go seriously wrong for others for us to be in the mix and I can't see that happening.
"We are just looking at next year now, everyone is enjoying it and with the injuries I had a couple of reserve team players on after about 60 minutes and they both did really well."
The game with Haywards Heath kicks off at 3pm at West Humble.
Wanderers: Lennie, Campbell (Livingstone), Milton, Beard, S Duffell (Burge), Hirrell, Davis, Beckles, M Evans, Jones, Smith.
