Medals at Euro championships
TWO members of Surrey Taekwon-Do fought their way to medals at the European Championships in Italy.
Chief instructor Richard Hamilton led by example as he picked up a gold medal at the tournament in Barletta, while Annabel Lock picked up a silver and fellow club member Charlotte McDermott lost out to the competitor who won silver.
The trio qualified for the England team and travelled to Italy to represent the fighting Lions in the European International Taekwon-Do Federation Championships.
More than 20 countries were in attendance from Russia to Greenland and from Norway to Italy so the competition was fierce, but England won numerous gold medals in patterns and sparring, including Hamilton's.
McDermott faced a fierce battle with the World Champion and lost in overtime, coming as close as she could to winning the gold medal. Lock was unfortunate in losing to a Greek opponent, who went on to finish in silver position.
Surrey Taekwon-Do is celebrating opening two new classes at the University of Surrey Sports Centre and is recruiting new people including juniors from the age of seven, so if you are interested please contact Richard@surreytaekwondo.com or see the website at www.surreytaekwondo.com.
Classes are held most days in Dorking, Woking and Guildford.
