Mole Valley Liberal Democrat leader stands down
THE leader of the Liberal Democrats in Mole Valley has resigned from her role.
Margaret Cooksey, who led the Lib Dems on the district council for seven years, announced on Friday that she will step down from the post, but will continue as a councillor for Dorking South.
The Lib Dems gained one seat on the council after last week's local elections, but Mrs Cooksey says she had hoped the party could gain a majority.
"The results of the election last week, although very good in terms of the national situation, did not produce the overall Liberal Democrat majority that I had hoped to see," she said.

"As a consequence I have taken the decision that it would be best at this stage to pass the baton to another colleague to lead the group in negotiations for a joint administration."
