VOLUNTEERS are being sought to help maintain local woodland while enjoying the great outdoors.

The National Trust wants to hear from people who would like to work in Netley Woods and parkland near Gomshall one day a week to help manage the woodland, paths and glades.

Head ranger Rob Hewer said: "We have a lot of volunteers on other sites. Netley would really benefit from a group of people who have time to spare and enjoy working outdoors one day a week.

"Benefits include some free firewood and a volunteer's card which gives you free access to National Trust properties – and it's healthy work and a good social activity."

The trust is also inviting people to help plant a hedge near the site next Wednesday and Thursday.

Mr Hewer added: "We are currently laying the hedge to the west of Netley House alongside the A25.

"Anyone wishing to help and learn about hedgerow management should come along.

"National Trust rangers and volunteers will be laying this long hedgerow and you can see the rangers in action."

To form a working group or take part, e-mail rob.hewer@ nationaltrust.org.uk or call 01306 887485.
