HUNDREDS of "Twi-Hards" turned out for a midnight showing of the latest film in a popular series.

At 12.01am on Friday, Epsom Odeon showed The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 to eager fans.

Some of the series' more enthusiastic followers even dressed up as vampires or werewolves for the showing, which finished shortly after 2am.

Some cinema-goers applauded as the film ended, but Mirrormidweek reviewer Tom Patrick was not impressed, giving the movie a rating of one star out of a possible five.

He said: "Pattinson and Stewart (in the lead roles), two of Hollywood's up-and-coming stars, appear so uncomfortable with the material that they awkwardly shuffle in camera shot and share absolutely zero chemistry.

"Director Bill Condon appears to have little or no understanding for the source material or audience.

"Gone are the quite interesting fight scenes of David Slade's Eclipse – replaced with one single, boring action sequence that is thankfully short.

"It's dull, tiresome and repetitive, except for when it's grotesque and fairly disgusting.

"Twilight films have never been outstanding, but they have at least been quite fun.

"The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 is where that streak ends.

"Twi-Hards will no doubt hail it as the new Citizen Kane, but for anyone not under the spell, we're just happy that there's only one more to go."

But the film impressed some viewers and, as the cinema emptied at the end, one teenage girl shouted: "It's even better than the book!"

Epsom Odeon is giving away two limited edition Twilight Breaking Dawn banners in a raffle.

Tickets for the draw, which will raise money for the Variety Club Children's Charity and the NSPCC, will be on sale until Friday.
