A NEW sun bed shop is to be named after a teenager who died while on holiday in Ibiza.

Jodie Nieman, 19, collapsed outside a nightclub two days into the trip-of-a-lifetime and was pronounced dead in hospital.

Talented nail technician Jodie worked at Nail's To Be Seen in Warlingham, and her name looks set to live on in the area.

Before Jodie's tragic death the nail bar owners were planning to open a second shop.

The new business will officially open at noon on Saturday in Limpsfield Road, Warlingham - and it will be called Jodie's Sun Lounge.

The kind gesture was made by owners Sue Cook and Cynthia Wilson.

Sue, 39, said: "Jodie was a very poignant member of our team and on a personal level she was a huge part of my life and my family, always coming around to us.

"She had been so excited about the new shop and had been helping me get quotes.

"So when that [her death] happened we asked ourselves 'Do we go ahead with this?'. When the dust settled, me and my business partner sat down over a quiet drink, chatting about it and it all fell into place.

"We took the positive choice and we will strive to get something good out of this, keeping her memory alive."

Jodie's mother, Debbie, from Kenley, was delighted with the tribute.

She said: "Most people get a little plaque, but for her to have a shop named after her – Jodie would have been absolutely over the moon.

"If she's looking down from heaven she will be so pleased.

"The girls have been excellent. They asked me whether I would mind. I said 'no, I think it's fantastic you're doing it for her'."

Jodie died just days before her 20th birthday on July 15 with her funeral taking place at Croydon Crematorium on August 16.

Hundreds of people gathered to pay their respects to the teenager who was fondly remembered as having had "a champagne lifestyle on a lemonade budget".

Debbie added: "I didn't realise how many friends Jodie had. People just don't forget her."
