Oxted move close to survival
Surrey Championship 2nd XI
Division Five
Oxted & Limpsfield II 265-4
Cranleigh II 115
Oxted's second string increased their chances of avoiding the drop as they thrashed Cranleigh.
Openers Nadeem Durrany and Bob Dalziel got them off to a solid start before unfortunately Durrany was run out.
Michael Wood then joined Dalziel and the pair put on exactly 50 when, with the score on 85, Dalziel was out for 44.
Wood continued to bat sensibly with Joe Kourea taking the more aggressive role and the pair moved the score to 149 when Wood was next to go for 32 in the 35th over.
With 15 overs to go and a deep batting line up Oxted attacked as they looked for a total of 250 plus. Andrew Davis was the first to get the scoreboard moving at pace with a quick-fire 22 before Richard Dalziel hit a very good 43.
Meanwhile Kourea had continued to bat positively and finished with an excellent unbeaten 90 as the O's reached 265 in their 50 overs.
In reply Oxted knew they needed early wickets and dismissed danger man Callum Greaves in the seventh over when David Staines had him well caught by Will Singleton.
Staines bowled an excellent 10 over spell and produced the ball of the day when he knocked the off stump out of the ground to dismiss the other opener.
He also dismissed the Cranleigh number four, thanks to a catch from Mike Trim in the slips and finished with excellent figures of 3-22.
Meanwhile Singleton finished his opening eight over spell having removed the Cranleigh number three with a fine delivery which took his leg stump.
Michael Adamson came into the attack and took a wicket in his first over to leave the visitors 37-5 after 18 overs.
Mike Trim added another before Adamson (2-41) struck again.
The game was now won and Trim (2-18) and Singleton (2-19) finished things off as Oxted secured a much needed 10 point win.
