Oxted's Anderson hits top form
National Conference East
Oxted 3
Bromley and Beckenham 2
Ian Anderson continued his goal-scoring streak, as Oxted pushed towards the top of the league.
Oxted player-coach Ken Forbes was happy with the result.
"I was very pleased with the points," he said.
"We had a very thin squad, and had to call up two players from the second team, so it was good to get the result.
"Obviously Ian Anderson scored again, and appears to have found himself some good form in front of goal. That can happen to a forward player; sometimes your defending well, chasing the ball but not scoring, and other times everything finds the net."
Next up for Oxted is Canterbury, who are second in the league, but joint on points with league leaders Old Loughtonians, and Forbes admits the home side will expect to win.
"Canterbury will go into the match as favourites but we will put on a good show," he said.
"We will make it hard for them. We hope to hold strong and then catch Canterbury on the break and maybe snatch a goal.
"We will still had a thread bare squad on Saturday. Ross Worne is away, Will Murch is injured and Richard Appleton is doubtful, so it'd be good if we managed to get some points."
It was Oxted who went ahead in the 23rd minute after Andrew Baggs put the ball away from open play.
On 45 minute, Mike Hughes levelled the scores with a goal from a penalty corner.
In a frantic period of play, first Bromley went ahead with a goal by Dalan Phillips, and then Richard Arscott equalised. Both goals went down as having happened in the 56th minute.
Anderson, who scored a brace for Oxted last week against Chelmsford, again proved the hero of the hour with the winning goal in the 65th minute.
