Patients and visitors have their say on hospital car parking
AN NHS trust is asking for patients' and visitors' input on car parking at its hospitals.
Epsom and St Helier is carrying out a review of car parking at all three of is hospitals, including Epsom Hospital.
The review, called 'the Big Conversation' was launched on Monday and also involves residents, staff and volunteers.
Topics on the survey include whether the trust's charges and penalties are fair, whether there is priority parking for those who need it and whether the trust should stop clamping vehicles.
Nigel Lewis-Baker, of Strathcona Avenue, Little Bookham, is a prostate cancer sufferer who has been campaigning against unfair car parking charges for people undergoing long-term treatment.
"When you have people like cancer patients who have six or seven weeks of daily radiotherapy, it can get very expensive and it is at a time when patients are losing money through not working, plus the cost of getting up and down to the hospitals.
"Exceptions should be made for patients that are not there by their own choice and that have to go there frequently," he said.
Nick Gorvett is the trust's director of corporate infrastructure.
He said: "We are encouraging our patients, visitors, and local people who have used the trust's car parks to take part in the review."
