Plans have been submitted to replace a pavilion burnt down in a suspected arson attack last year.

Mole Valley District Council submitted the plans to replace the pavilion in Great Bookham's Lower Road recreation ground last week.

The new structure will be built on the same site as the pavilion which was completely destroyed by flames in March of last year.

It will be the same size as the old pavilion, which acted as a changing room and storage area for the Bookham Colts football club, with the addition of a groundsman's store.

In the planning documents the council says it will also improve on-site security. It said: "External entry and egress points have been kept to a minimum and window openings excluded from the design to reflect the low building usage and enhance overall security."

The Bookham Colts used the pavilion to store their equipment but, since it burned down, have had to rent a steel container for the team's kit.

The club's chairman Jeff Potts says he is happy progress is being made.

He said: "We have seen the plans, the club has approved them and we are happy for that particular pavilion design to be built.

"We are hoping that the pavilion will be built and ready for the next football season in September."

If you want to see the plans go to www.mole-valley.gov.uk. Residents can comment on the application until March 5.
