Perkins on the search for stability as Lingfield rebuild team
Steve Perkins wants to return a bit of stability to Lingfield.
It has been a turbulent few months for the Sussex County League club.
He has stepped in as caretaker manager after Mick Buckingham - after just four games in charge - left last week.
Before that Perkins's son, also called Steve, was manager.
"I'm here until they find the right person. If the right person turns up tomorrow then that'll be that," Perkins Snr explained.
"There has been a few phone calls, but nothing definite yet. I never wanted this job, but as it is we don't have enough people at this club and so someone was needed to step in."
Perkins admits it has not been an easy couple of months for the first division side, but believes with a couple of new additions the team will be up to scratch.
"Lingfield is a very small club that have been overachieving. The boys have done very well, but there has been no stability," he said.
"We have slid away a bit in the league, through changing managers and things. Because with managers coming and going then a lot of the players don't stay around either. This club needs a bit of stability, and we need a few players around us.
"I know Lingfield isn't the biggest draw but I want a couple of players just to make a squad. We want players with commitment and leadership; that is the way I played my football.
"We need people who would put their head in where it hurts and spill blood for the club."
Already one game in to his caretaking, a 3-3 draw against Mile Oak, Perkins has brought in striker Richard Dimmock, who got sent off five minutes into his debut.
With now three dismissals in two games, the new manager admits it is something the club need to work on.
"Our discipline in the league at the moment has been very disappointing," he said.
"We had two players sent off against Three Bridges and then against Mile Oak I brought in a new lad, a striker, and he gets sent off within five minutes. He didn't mean the elbow at all and left the field with a tear in his eye."
