AN ASHTEAD policeman has received an award for his outstanding contribution to the community.

Neighbourhood Specialist PC Jason Woods was awarded the Individual Community Honour at Ashtead Rotary Club's village day on Saturday, June 12.

BBC broadcaster Nicholas Owen presented the award after a poll of more than a hundred local figures and businesses.

PC Woods said: "I am only doing what is expected of me but I am really flattered and very pleased to be given the Individual Community Honour by Ashtead Rotary Club.

"I enjoy working in Ashtead, the community is great, they are very supportive and I am pleased with the progress we have made in the area to address antisocial behaviour.

"I will continue to work hard to ensure Ashtead remains a lovely place to live, work and visit."

Ashtead Rotary Club member Alan Howell said: "I am delighted PC Woods has been recognised as an outstanding member of our community.

"He has been our local police officer for many years and is well known and very well respected for his hard work and dedication."

After receiving his award PC Woods joined in the fun of the fair, and received a good-natured soaking from locals when he was put in the stocks.
